Wildland Fuels Assessments, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Charles M. Russell, Lee Metcalfe, Boyer Chute, and Ft. Niobrara/Valentine National Wildlife Refuges, Montana and Nebraska.

fuels_assessmentWildland Fire Associates conducted wildland fuels assessments on five National Wildlife Refuges in Montana and Nebraska in conformance with the National Fire Plan.  The primary emphasis was to identify wildland urban interface areas, assess hazard fuels conditions, develop mitigation projects (prescribed burning and hazard fuels reductions), and estimate the cost and duration of mitigation projects.  The project had a strong public and agency education component.
